TRUS Biopsy — or Transrectal Ultrasound-Guided Prostate Biopsy — is a minimally invasive diagnostic procedure used to obtain small tissue samples from the prostate gland for microscopic examination. It helps in the early detection and confirmation of prostate cancer, especially in men with elevated PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) levels or abnormal findings on prostate examination.
During the procedure, a thin ultrasound probe is gently inserted into the rectum to visualize the prostate. Using real-time ultrasound guidance, a fine biopsy needle is used to take multiple small tissue samples from different areas of the prostate.
