Uroflowmetry

Uroflowmetry is a quick, painless, and non-invasive test used to measure how well your bladder and urethra are working. It records the speed, volume, and pattern of urine flow, helping your urologist detect problems like urinary obstruction, weak bladder muscles, or prostate issues.

During the test, the patient is asked to urinate into a special computerized machine (uroflowmeter) that measures how fast the urine flows and how much is passed. The entire process is private, comfortable, and usually takes only a few minutes.

Why the Test is Done
  • Slow or weak urine stream
  • Difficulty starting urination
  • Frequent or urgent urination
  • Feeling of incomplete emptying
  • Post-surgical monitoring after prostate or bladder surgery
How It Helps
  • Detects bladder outlet obstruction (e.g., prostate enlargement)
  • Evaluates urinary incontinence or retention
  • Assesses bladder muscle strength
  • Monitors results of ongoing treatments
What Patients Can Expect

There’s no anesthesia, pain, or preparation required. You simply arrive with a comfortably full bladder, urinate normally, and the machine automatically records your flow rate. Results are instantly available and interpreted by your doctor.
